Delfina Delettrez opened her first store in London on Mayfair’s Mount Street on Monday, February 23rd, 2015.
A contemporary cabinet de curiosité, the store showcases the full collection, including her signature ‘Piercing’ rings and earrings, in her original use of figurative surrealism and natural iconography including, eyes, bees and lips. Located at 109 Mount Street, the store is comprised of two floors and spans 650 square feet.
Kinetic pieces, tourbillion bracelets and rings with spinning concentric layers of precious metal are created with the excellence of traditional Italian craft, mixing with postmodern inspirations.
While the dynamic, multifunctional lower level is a dedicated private lounge, designed to be transformed, Delettrez says “I believe in synergies, and would love to leave the space open to different forms of art, collaborations, and events.”
Here, the high jewelry pieces including the HANDroid Platinum Edition rings and unique one off creations are housed. The store also features limited edition pieces created specially for the store.
Delettrez collaborates with New York and London based architect Rafael de Cárdenas on a design that translates Delettrez’s continued exploration of materials and shapes for a very intimate reflection of her sensibility.
Inspired the co-existing of materials and surfaces from matte to reflective, industrial to organic, the unexpected mix of metals and textures include polished stainless steel, satin brass, silver mirrors, fur and malachite green faux leather. The walls are lined in green mirrors, creating infinity effect. “I like the element of distortion, the illusion of floating stones, projected on floating windows, and the malachite trompe l’oeil,” says Delettrez.
Traditional Italian design is combined with a futuristic aesthetic in homage to Delettrez’s heritage and innovation, Delettrez explains “I want the basement to become a very dynamic and free environment.” The interior is set off with classic 1950’s Italian modernist furniture including Fontana Arte and Gio Ponti furniture sourced by Delfina Delettrez.
“Working with Delfina is a dream, we share similarly specific interests; a love for precision inflected by romance. The malachite trompe l’oie proved to be a key aspect of the project. It feels ancient, exuberant, Italian and very contemporary as combined with polished, unlacquered brass, stainless steel, and dark wood. The way the malachite painting wraps the back wall inviting the shopper down the stairs is suggesting and seductive. It is a particularly favorite feature of mine,” explains de Cárdenas.
